What is Graphic Design?
Graphic design is the creative process in which art and technology are combined to communicate ideas in a visual presentation.
What is a Graphic Designer?
A graphic designer is a person who has the professional skills, knowledge and software to combine visual art, typography, and page layout techniques to create visually pleasing and effective print communications. Graphic arts also requires creativity, imagination, and a sense of what is and is not quality design while keeping in mind the capabilities of the printing processes that will be used to print the final product.
Are Graphic Designers also fine artists or illustrators?
Sometimes, but not always.
Where do Graphic Designers work?
They work on newspapers, magazines, web sites, packaging, event programs, ads, flyers, business cards - wherever art and text are working together to put across an idea, information or instruction!
What is DTP?
DTP stands for Desktop Publishing and is the process of using a computer and specific page layout software along with digital text and graphics to create and produce documents such as newsletters, brochures, books and magazines for printing.
What software do you use?
We use a variety of professional software depending on the needs of a project. The list is quite extensive, but for most projects Adobe Creative Suite works great.
What hardware to you run?
I use Mac computers for their reliability, speed, and ease of use. I have a both an on-site and off-site nightly backup of my hard drive and this insures that I have a minimum loss in case of a hard drive error.
Why do you do photo restoration/enhancements as well as graphic design and desktop publishing?
There is actually quite a bit of cross-over among the three. I'm a very crafty person (in the arts and craft sense!), and the techniques I learned as a graphic designer lent themselves very well to photo restoration and enhancement work.
What I am NOT:
I am not a copywriter, proofreader, illustrator, or fine artist. While I am competent on the first two, it is your job as the client to give me the text (copy) that I need and to proof the work I send you. If you need original created art I can recommend someone.
